dark paint

Crazy or Perfect

When I decided to paint my office dark I was thinking that I was either daft or brilliant. Once that first coat of paint went up on the wall though I was smitten. It made the room feel so much larger and not quite so dingy. I painted the top 1/4 a pink hue (not my normal color choice, but it works so well in this space) and I left it feeling a bit unfinished on purpose.

I kept popping my head into the room just because.

I rent so I know I'm going to have to paint it back, but I reached a point where I was actively avoiding that room and it was a dumping ground. I wanted to make it into a positive creative space that I would use.

Now it is a space where I curl up in the chair and day dream in, or open the windows on a summer night and listen to the Mumford and Sons concert. It is filled with inspirational art, including pictures I took on my travels.

The desk is no longer piled with stuff and so it is functional. I want to be in here working, which completely changes my productivity and how I view the administrative work I need to do for the business.

These are just a couple of glimpses because a friend is going to come and photograph the space. It's tight and really dark so it is a bit challenging for me to do!

If you have been thinking about making some bold changes I highly recommend you do it. If you need some help through the process then definitely drop me a line

Office Design Inspiration

It seems counter intuitive but painting a small beige room a dark color makes it bigger. My second bedroom is off the dining room and it became a dumping ground because I never went in there. It just felt so bleh.

I decided it was time for a change. I made a pinterest board and started pinning things that caught my eye. A very clear pattern emerged of dark walls and hints of pink. Even as I type that I'm saying- wait, what? pink?!!

Except for the hint of pink there was a very masculine vibe coming through as well. Along with different textures to make the space warm and inviting.

I had been debating painting the room dark and then I went to Cape Town, South Africa and stayed at an amazing flat through AirBnB. It had all of the design elements I was contemplating and it looked fabulous.

So, I came home and painted the bottom 3/4 of the wall dark and the top 1/4 a dusky rose.

I'm finishing up the final touches and I can't wait to share this room with you.

I share my progress over on Instagram, so please feel free to follow along.

Going to the dark side

I need to repaint my office. Let me rephrase that- I've needed to repaint my office for almost a year now. I even have a can of paint just sitting there waiting to be used. It is white with a tint of grey.

My office is painted this horrendous shade of beige with way too much yellow in it. In fact my whole house is this horrid shade of beige. The room also gets no natural light. I've decided to embrace the darkness and make the room cozy instead of bleh.

I've decided that I will willingly paint the room back to beige but I can't live with it like this anymore. Plus there are holes from the previous tenant that were never patched and I added even more holes to the wall.

The function of this room is shifting. It is going to be a combo office, guest bedroom, and tv watching room. I decided to be bold and I'm going to paint the space dark grey almost black.

I turned to the interwebs for further inspiration/confirmation of my insane idea. There is a Benjamin Moore paint store around the corner from my house so that's where I am heading to get my paint. Therefore I focused my search on Benjamin Moore.

I kind of want them all, but I need to narrow it down. I've gone to the paint store to get samples so I'll keep you posted.

Have you painted a room dark?
