I mentioned last week that I am planning on creating a uniform for my wardrobe. The reality is that clothing options for plus-sized women are limited. Granted, they are way better then in the 90's when I was wearing men's clothes because I couldn't find anything to wear. It was either that or the really bad polyester stuff from Lane Bryant. Ugh.
Anyways, I've seen the term 'capsule wardrobe' tossed about the interwebs (I would credit it if I could remember where I saw it). Basically a capsule wardrobe is comprised of the essentials in very classic styles.
Given limited options and resources I decided to revamp my wardrobe (so much of it was ill fitting or worn out) and stick mainly to a black and grey color palette with a bit of pale pink thrown in. I want to create a uniform where everything matches and I don't have to think about what to wear. I don't know if it is because my wardrobe was so sadly limited before or if it is because I'm 40 and I'm tired of picking out clothes, but regardless, I'm tired of picking out clothes.
My new wardrobe channels a little bit of my inner goth (I never did stop wearing burgundy lipstick) and implements modern shapes. So, I've got some black leggings with leather on the front paired with a black tunic top; a grey sweatshirt lace dress; some black skinny jeans with black or grey shirts. I mix in my jewelry and scarves and voila- I have a uniform.
Can we talk about jeans for a moment. Ironically I wear skinny jeans not because they are in fashion but because I can't find normal jeans. Also, once you start wearing skinny jeans you realize that they are basically pajamas and you can't stop. I do long for the days of a straight leg trouser jean.
Does anyone else feel this way? Tired of thinking about clothes! I do have a ton of scarves, hats and bright jewelry to make each outfit interesting, so I don't think I'll get bored.
What's your uniform?
