My great-grandfather Christensen and my Poppy
Happy Memorial Day
Today in the United States it is Memorial Day, which initially started out as a holiday to commemorate the soldiers who died in the Civil War. Now, Memorial Day honors all of the soldiers who have died in service. I think that regardless of your feelings about whether or not we should be engaged in war, that it is important to remember the men and women who serve our country.
My grandfather was in the Navy during the Korean War and while he jokes that all he saw was the inside of a refrigeration unit (he was a heating and air conditioning engineer) I do know that there are many stories he did not tell. So today while having my barbecued vegi burger, I'll lift my glass and honor the sacrifices that have been made.
